The Honbu was created by the Instructors and Students of Wincanton Karate Club. The aim of the project is to create a space where students can practise safely and improve their skills.

The centre is self-sufficient. No council or government money was used to create the honbu. The renovation work utilised the skills from within the club. Wincanton Karate Club was founded in 1985, and has since its inception been members of the British Traditional Karate Association.

In 2002 the club started to grow at an incredible rate, and it was during the later part of 2007 we decided that to continue this growth we needed more training time. It was clear that we would be unable to achieve this by staying at Wincanton Sports Centre.

We looked at many locations before settling on the Tythings Commercial Centre and once the decision was made our focus concentrated on how to make Unit 10 fit for martial arts and other lifestyle classes. We feel that we have done a good job, come and judge it for yourself.
